Kemeticism, the revival of the ancient Egyptian religion, is a growing yet still poorly understood form of Paganism. The number of Kemetics online has more than doubled in the last decade, yet nearly all of the books addressing Kemeticism or Egyptian Paganism are written from an outside perspective, using outdated sources. To address this disparity, Following the Sun is the first book to unite 21st-century Egyptological research with the real-life experiences of modern Egyptian Pagan and Kemetic practitioners, covering such useful topics as Egyptian ethics; how to build and consecrate a Kemetic altar; Egyptian deities and holidays; and a historical look at major controversies such as ethnicity in ancient Egypt and the connection between Atlantis and the Sphinx. No longer will those seeking to understand and experience Egyptian religion for themselves be limited to challenging academic sources, as this book presents Egypt and her gods in an accessible, engaging manner the average reader can enjoy.

Following the Sun A Practical Guide to Egyptian Religion Sharon LaBorde 9780557484188 Books

I’ve been interested in Egyptian Paganism for some time, but what the average layperson knows about actual Egyptian religion is so confused by pop culture references and the wrongheaded theorizing of Theosophists and occultists that I wasn’t sure where to start.
I’ve been impressed with Sharon LaBorde’s YouTube videos on the subject because she seems in some ways to represent the best of the citizen-scholar Priestess which modern Paganism is creating by necessity. Since she is self-published, however, we also see some of the shortcomings of the citizen-scholar show through. Though this book has far fewer typos than the average self-published book, Ms. LaBorde would have benefited from a professional editor to help her tighten up her writing and eliminate some awkward language and punctuation usage.
As to the content, it’s quite information-rich and free of filler or fluff. This is a good thing. One thing you’ll need to weigh, though, is whether you’re willing to read almost 60 pages of Egyptian history before even beginning to learn about Egyptian theology. I wasn’t expecting this and since I’m not much of a history buff, it was tough going for me. Of course, I began this exercise almost completely ignorant of Egyptian history, so a history lesson was probably necessary, but I’m not sure that it needed to be as comprehensive as it was.
After the history lesson, the pace picks up substantially. Brief information about each of the Gods, information on how to set up an altar, how to begin worship, and even how to make some Egyptian garb and some information on food.
It’s easy to see that this book is a labor of love on Ms. LaBorde’s part, and if you’re interested in the Egyptian Gods and pursuing the living, vital path of Egyptian Paganism, I recommend this book very highly. It will ground you in the very real history of the people to whom the netjer first made Themselves known, and it will tell you how to create your own respectful and authentic practice with these powerful spiritual presences.

The author presents a guide on worshiping the Egyptian pantheon in an easy to read format that is straight to the point and most importantly, accurate.
Very Good Starter Book
Excellent book; and it comes with excellent reference material like online shops, important religious texts and, of course, a bibliography. The ritual format laid out is easy to understand and follow. Again, great book.
Very Informative. I enjoyed every page of it. So much so it was read in 2 days. The first time around. You I know liked it, because I never write reviews. I Can't wait for the next one. It is on order now.
This is an excellent book for modern Pagans who are seeking to make a connection to the gods of ancient Egypt. This is NOT a book for Kemetic (Egyptian) Reconstructionists, this is a book about the modern expression of devotion to these ancient deities. The author acknowledges that even with the best archaeological efforts we can only know a small amount of the manner in which the ancients saw the world and practiced their faith.

This, in my opinion, is a good thing. Beyond our common humanity, we differ from the ancients in innumerable ways. Their religious practices were based on their worldview and their needs. Our paradigm couldn't be more different than their. The world has shrunken, we are more educated and we possess a Western mindset...which is very different from that of the ancient Egyptians who lived in the most theocratic society the ancient world has ever known.

If you are looking to build a modern spiritual practice rooted, to an extent, in more ancient ways you should read this book. The ancient gods are calling and they know our intentions despite the fact that we approach them in different ways than our ancestors did.
An easy read but does not always align with existing Egyptology
I had originally heard of this book, Following The Sun, when I stumbled across the author's Youtube channel called KemeticIndependent in which she posted episodes about certain topics within Kemeticism. I was still (and still am at the time of writing this review) very knew to Kemeticism and I am still finding my feet on how to practice my knew found faith, and this book has (and will likely continue to be) been a great resource for me.

This is books a wonderful introduction in guide to Egyptian Paganism. The information given and suggested are things any might find useful to them no matter kind of exact Kemeticism a person is practicing or interested in. This facet alone, makes it a every great resource. Whatever preferences or dislikes the author holds to any specific way of practicing Kemeticism is really left out. The author uses their book as a resource and her book never seemed like it was trying to sway me as the reader in any way outside of encouraging the reader to know their history on ancient Egypt and not just only learn how to practice their religion in modern times. This suggestion was something, I as a history major, found rather near and dear to me.

Another thing I loved about this book is that it referenced a lot of ancient texts and a number of the sample prayers and rituals given in this book are actually based any number of historical texts which she gives their original source. This also the reader to make a point of reference to only check the author herself but also hunt down and read the raw source itself for those who might want to take things from a slightly different way or draw away from the text with a different idea.

During the beginning of the book, the author goes into a nice overview about the long history of ancient Egypt, which I think given the very long history of Egypt is important for modern Kemetics to have some sense of. The author also gives a general background of historical facts against various misconceptions about ancient Egypt which have developed over the years.

The book then goes on into how the world and order of the world was used by ancient Egyptians and it is viewed by a number of modern Kemetics. This book also contains several helpful things such as guides on how to make ritual clothing or tools (such as the sisturm), how to make various things like homemade incense or natron, and a few other things.

I warmly recommend this book to anyone practicing any form of Kemeticism or simply interested in it. This book delivers a nice overview that I think many could find helpful no matter if they are new to Kemeticism or have been practicing for many years. I also think this book would be helpful and of interest to anyone who is interested in or already practicing any number of faiths based off of ancient Egyptian beliefs from Tameran Wicca to Kemetic Orthodoxy to Kemetic Reconstructionism to someone who is an eclectic pagan interested in bringing something of Kemeticism into their faith, and so on.

An amazing book overall.
